I Am Singaporean

Monday, July 10th, 2006

National Day is arriving, and Mr Brown has started off a series of podcasts for the occasion. The podcasts are kindof heartwrenching & somehow brought out the patriotism in me which usually never shows. Im not blessed with sponsored podcasting recording equipment from LSV Enterprise like mrbrown is, but im still inspired to do one so here is my take on a make do I AM SINGAPOREAN written blog entry as my personal tribute to my identity/nationality. Although not as flowing & inspirationally stylo, its something close to my heart. Im hoping to see more people do this as its quite interesting to find out what makes us all tick.

I am a chinese but i got no chinese name.

I got a baptism middle name that means the rock but no im not eurasian or angmoh.

I try to speak many languages; but mainly Singlish & English are the ones im comfortable in. Please dont call me banana just because i speak more english than mungen. You ever kena 4 D7s for your chinese? Chinese, Malay, hokkien, teochew, cantonese & bits of french & spanish are just peripherals i try to articulate. I also dont need to wear green to swear.

My surname is pretty vulgar sounding & many have a field day coming up with the endless list of possibilities of nicknames.

I was born in Singapore to a singaporean & a malaysian & i feel more mixed up than ever about my race & ethnicity.
My parents, my family & I are not on very good terms but we try to live harmoniously.

I have many relatives but we are not closely related; only by association.
One of the reasons i want to get married is so that i can have real relatives.

I am part of the last generation of kids that lived in a world without pagers and mobile phone. I still have that yellow Css bus no. 8 ticket with the hole in the center. Want to see my sec school bus pass?

I learnt to brush my teeth properly squatting next to a drain in primary school. i was often sent to the Principal’s office for not bringing my dam toothbrush.

I was a lazy student who preferred to play than to study.
Maths was a total turnoff. Now im beginning to regret not being good at counting. I used words like "pass up my homework" & "borrow me your pen". But i still scored a A1 for my english.
Sitting in the front of the class was the "smartest" thing to do because my teachers usually stood in the center of the class which meant all us front rowers could have a nap each time she goes on some sob story about us not bringing our books for silent reading.

I am christian, i love my Savior even though i dont profess it often enough or show it through my actions.

I believe in God, Jesus Christ & the Holy Spirit who died for the redemption of the sins of mankind
. I try to be a good boy; no im not making excuses for myself but after all this while i still am struggling with many issues. God is still good all the time & i have many things to be thankful for.

I don’t slog in a 9-5 job pushing papers. I train people to live a more wholesome & healthier life through exercise & watching their diet.

I am a personal trainer
… i repeat, im a personal trainer; not a personal torturer.

I love my job & want to train many clients a day even though i dont have that many now.

I hope to own a car soon so that i can drive to my clients who are based outside my gym.
Good excuse to have a set of wheels for a business investment. My friends think that i should dress better especially at work even though i think i have an okay fashion sense based on comfortability. Whenever i can, i buy my supplements and medicine from other countries because they cost 1/2 the price compared to pharmacies here & the potency is higher. No herbalife bullshit for me.

I wonder how many people in my generation will live in a life of debt. Im still struggling to clear my bills alongside managing my fitness business.

I strongly believe that working at MacDonald’s or clearing up clogged toilet bowls are NOT the jobs for 70year old "retirees".

I live in an artificial environment; we are told to smile during September 2006

I have been trying to get as big, thick & massive as possible even though all my friends im big enough. But im not abang gym. I hate to do cardio… It’s the fastest way for me to lose my mass.

I am a heartlander even though i dream of living in a big semi-d with my superturbocharged mod-up car with big rims & twin exhaust.

I spent the prime of my life giving 2 years of the twilight to the government to serve my country in the army.

I am a good soldier & learnt alot in the army even though i downgraded & chow kenged my way through
.

I love my fellow countrymen even though they piss the hell out of me with their selfish impatient & inconsiderate ways. Cant they read the sign that says keep left on the escalator?

I believe i got the right to a singaporean or malaysian "stupid" because of the blood lines of my family. What’s love got to do with it?

I believe that there should be more opposition in the parliament to balance the power.

I was one of the 33.3% who voted for the Workers Party in my home. One of the reasons why i dont want to move is because i could stick one to the "bloody gahmen". So much for giving me so little for the progress package. I cant wait to vote for my constituency again.

I firmly believe that the MDA TV/Radio licence is BULLSHIT, along with many other policies. I’m now in the process of informing all the various departments of things I don’t have and laws that I’m not breaking.

I love Singapore, but I detest the ugly Singaporean who is drunk with wealth and power. Fat or thin, rich or poor, everyone should act with dignity, treat each other with respect and give others a fair chance - not target people for expressing different or opposing views. But Singapore is an economic powerhouse, not a humanitarian one. We’ve forgotten that we are people, not products off a conveyor belt.

I love her even though i know i may never ever win her heart. It sucks when affairs of the heart dont turn out the way you would have them
.

Take it from me, the women from my past know how big the schlong is, but even though my manhood is big, it still stinks when its how fat your wallet is & how handsome you look that is most important to a woman.

I trained my blood & guts out for the OSIM Triathlon, but i never managed to get to do the relay.

I blog to recognise my feelings and thoughts which I always buried in my heart.

I write this on my blog instead of podcasting is because I dun know how to podcast and I do not have some patriotic music behind me.
Believe me, it’s a pretty exhaustive list so sue me if you think im cheong hei.

I want to do this on a podcast once i get a microphone & come up with a good song to be in the background.

I am almost turning 30 even though i feel like im 45 & think like im 18.

I am Jason Peter Nah, i am the Big Machine; i think im living in the wrong country & I am singaporean…

So say we all!
