Our Greatest Fear

Tuesday, September 5th, 2006

After watching Akeelah & the Bee today, i have no qualms than to be utterly inspired. Deep, inspirational & beyond what i think a feelgood movie should be. What really struck me about the movie is about not just about the coming of age-underdog makes good but also one of the main points of the movie - about ourselves, our talents & about being human… as they took a quote from one of the most awe-inspiring speeches by one of my heroes Nelson Mandela during his 1994 Inaugural Speech. I have been going thru some serious shit this past few weeks, sometimes i feel like nothing is in for me, but something like this would bring me great light to the scheme of things & for that im thankful for being thankful to live my life to the full.

Our Greatest Fear - Nelson Mandela, 1994 Inaugural Speech

Our greatest fear is not that we are inadequate,
but that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness, that frightens us.

We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some; it is in everyone.
And, as we let our own light shine,
we consciously give other people permission to do the same.

As we are liberated from our fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.
